STEVE BRAUNGINN has depth and range in his professional career spanning radio broadcasting,
education, free lance writing, government and business. He is currently the co-host
for Strictly Jazz Sounds on WORT Radio. He has done voice-overs for arts and non-profit
organizations for radio and television. Besides writing poetry, he has performed
poetry in the multi-media Tap-It production of "A Poetry Cafe: An Evening of jazz,
poetry and tap," as part of the Isthmus Jazz Festival in Madison to rave reviews.
Working with high school students, he has read poetry and conducted radio sound production
workshops in area schools. He has been a teacher for Learning Disabled students.
His radio documentary: "The Coming Out Process of Gay and Lesbian Teens," was a national
award winner. He has interviewed some of today's top jazz musicians including Sonny
Rollins in an article for Jazz Improv Magazine, April 2007. His columns have appeared
in Isthmus, Madison's weekly newspaper. His published articles include several pieces
for the WI Clearinghouse, magazine articles for the Wisconsin Alumni Association
(WAA) and for Black Enterprise Magazine. Steve has served as the president/CEO of
the Urban League of Greater Madison, Deputy Director of the Wisconsin Clearinghouse
for Prevention Resources at UW-Madison, Director of Multi-cultural Affairs & Special
Interest Groups for the Wisconsin Alumni Association. He has served for three terms
on the Dane County Board of Supervisors. He has a BS in Special Education and a MA
in Journalism and Mass Communications from UW-Madison.
